King Glory International School
Sponsoring tuition fees for 139 Students
Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia
Local project partner: King Glory International School
Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia, remains deeply affected by poverty and challenging living conditions after years of civil conflict. Child labor and exploitation are widespread and the educational offerings of public schools are minimal, with no enforced school attendance requirements. Only private schools, often requiring parents to dedicate nearly all their income, offer children a pathway to a brighter future.
Tarek Mamisch has been visiting Cambodia for many years, building close relationships with the local community. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic not only brought health challenges but also brought the tourism sector, so vital to the country, to a standstill.
As a result, 139 students at the King Glory International School faced the risk of dropping out, as their families could no longer afford the annual school fees. With support from friends and donors, the TAREK MAMISCH FOUNDATION stepped in to help. Since 2022, the foundation has covered the school fees for these 139 students, allowing them to maintain hope for a brighter future through continued education.
To promote long-term independence, parents were gradually reintegrated into the payment of school fees while the foundation’s support was slowly reduced. With the return of tourism and the associated employment opportunities, families are now once again able to cover the costs independently.
