Monthly support for a family with two children and grandmother

Location: Luang Prabang, Laos
Local project partner: direct help

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we began providing monthly support to a family in Laos, a country whose economy relies heavily on tourism and had completely closed its borders to visitors. Tarek Mamisch met this warm-hearted family during his travels in Laos, and we quickly decided to help.

During the pandemic, the parents of two children could no longer secure adequate provisions for their family, including their grandmother. Compounding these challenges, a severe termite infestation damaged their traditional wooden house in 2022, rendering it uninhabitable.

After visiting the family in person, we made the spontaneous decision to cover the costs for demolishing and rebuilding the home. The new house was completed by the end of 2023 and as both parents returned to work in the tourism industry in the fall of that year, this project reached its successful conclusion. The monthly support payments were also able to end.

Amount of funding in 2021: 2,200 US-Dollars
Amount of funding in 2022: 4,000 US-Dollars
Amount of funding in 2023: 8,600 US-Dollars

Total amount of funding: 14,800 US-Dollars
