After the devastating flood disaster in Ahrtal in 2021, we spontaneously decided to provide emergency aid. We helped with the reconstruction and commissioning of the Bad Neuenahr primary school by covering the costs of school play materials and home accessories. For the Mäuseburg daycare centre in Stolberg, we covered the costs of purchasing lost or destroyed kitchen equipment. Until the equipment was delivered, we partially financed the daycare centre’s meals through external caterers. In addition, through our contact with the local fire brigade, we had a list of 10 particularly affected families in Ahrtal who needed uncomplicated help: Here we paid for an urgently needed hearing aid that was lost in the flood. In another case, we paid the rent for six months for a large family who lost their house in the floods. We were also able to help other families by covering the costs of urgently needed household appliances such as washing machines.
