Emergency aid after the earthquake

Establishment of a tent camp as refuge for 28 Families

Location: Harim, Syria
Local project partner: Spendahilfe e. V.

Following the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023, which struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, we responded swiftly to provide emergency aid in collaboration with our long-standing partner Mahmoud Dahi and his daughters Jasmin and Shirin Dahi. We established a tent camp in Harim, approximately 70 km from the earthquake’s epicenter, providing temporary refuge for 28 families – 45 adults and 73 children – who lost their homes in the disaster.

In addition to setting up the camp, we invested in essential infrastructure, such as sanitation facilities and weather-resistant foundations for the tents. The total setup cost amounted to approximately 20,000 euros. The families in the camp were also provided with food packages, one hot meal per day and clothing, with monthly expenses amounting to 3,100 euros.

Beyond material aid, we aimed to bring hope and moments of relief to those affected in the camp during this difficult time. For instance, at the end of Ramadan, we celebrated Eid by distributing new clothes, sweets and toys to the families.

By the end of April 2024, most of the supported families were able to leave the camp and reunite with their relatives.

Amount of funding in 2023: 49,300 euros
Amount of funding in 2024: 3,000 euros

Total amount of funding: 52,300 euros
